Are you One?
Young men here in the SB area and in communities like ours are crying out for adult role-models, mature, well-developed men who will make time for these boys as they travel their "Journey Into Manhood". This period of a young man's life is filled with uncertainty and fear. With the help of an adult man who sees him for who he is, the young man can become more conscious of his world...and of of the tremendous potential that is awakening inside his being.

The joys of mentoring teach you many things: How to listen, without giving your own fantastic advice. How to be a better parent to your own children. What it's like to be in the middle of adolescence and how to make a difference in a young man's life. Mentoring is fun, it's fulfilling, and it is desperately needed. Here is your opportunity to help one young man down a successful path to adulthood.

  • BTM recruits and assigns one mentor (adult man) for each young man who goes through the rite of passage weekend.
  • Each mentor commits to attend community meetings with his mentee for one full year.
  • Each mentor must pass an FBI background check.
  • The mentor's purpose is to be there: listen, accept and admire!

There are many myths surrounding Youth Mentoring and why many men buy into the thought that they are not ready. (Learn More)

Mentor Development in Boys to Men

In BTM there are 3 levels of Mentor training available:

  1. Inner Mentor Training: Reclaiming the Teenage Fire
Local 2-day training focused on shifting your perception of your own teenage years. (Register for this upcoming event, Jan 8-9, 2010!)
  1. Rock Star Camp
A weekend training designed to empower leadership in the JGroups and to deepen your skill set for effective communication with your mentee.
  1. BTM Intl. Leadership Development Track

For adult mentors and Jmen, who want to develop themselves into leaders at the international level of BTM (ask for more details!). Additionally mentors are encouraged to staff RPAWs (Rites-of-passage Adventure Weekends) in their home communities and abroad.

E-mail info@boystomenccc.org or call (805) 637-5781 to learn more about mentor training. Not ready to become a mentor yet? Try supporting us in other ways or volunteer your time as an RPAW Staff Member.
